Activists take Qatar workers protest to FIFA boss’s home town

Qatar, where foreigners make up the majority of its population of 2.9 million, has faced fierce criticism from human rights groups over its treatment of migrant workers.

FIFA said it was evaluating Amnesty’s proposal and undertaking an “unprecedented due diligence process with regard to the protection of the workers involved”.
FIFA said it is working with the organizers and has compensated some workers. It did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Wednesday.
The EU Parliament last month passed a resolution calling on FIFA to help compensate the families of migrant workers who died, as well as workers whose rights were abused, during the preparations for the World Cup. .
