Artists can now opt out of the next version of Stable Diffusion
A spokesperson for Stability.AI did not respond to a request for comment. in one tweetStability.AI founder Emad Mostaque said the company did not do this for “ethical or legal reasons”.
“We’re doing this because there’s no reason not to do it and be more inclusive,” Mostaque said on Twitter. “We think different model datasets will be interesting,” he added in another tweet.
But Karla Ortiz, an artist and board member of the Conceptual Arts Association, an advocacy organization for artists working in the entertainment sector, says she doesn’t think Stability.AI went far enough.
The fact that artists had to opt out meant that “every artist in the world was automatically opted in and our choice was taken away,” she said.
“The only thing that Stability.AI can do is algorithmic decay, where they completely destroy our database and they completely destroy all the models that have all our data. in there,” she said.
