Runner of the week:

Jackson Martingayle, LSU

LSU senior Jackson Martingayle led his team to the finish line in first place Friday at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge. Martingayle, a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honors, topped the individual standings Friday with a career best time of 18:09.00 in the men’s 6,000 metres. Martingayle has been LSU’s top finisher in both Tigers meetups this fall, when he finished fifth in the 5,000 meters at the UNO Opener on September 2.

Women’s Runner-up of the Week:

Perri Bockrath, Kentucky

Kentucky’s Perri Bockrath finished with a time of 23:33.60 at Cowboy Jamboree, being among the top 6k times in the SEC this season. Finishing eighth ahead of some of the nation’s best runners in an event featuring 223 runners, including 12 ranked out of 21 teams, Bockrath finished the course in 20:33.6 . Running on a very tough course will host the NCAA Championships in November, it’s a strong follow-up for the graduate from Centreville, Ohio, who won the North Alabama Showcase a week ago. Bockrath led the British women’s team in 29th to finish in 11th.

Women’s Runner-up of the Week:

Lorena Rangel, LSU

LSU’s Lorena Rangel led her team to the finish line in first place, finishing Friday at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge. Rangel, a member of the 2021 NCAA South Central All-South Team and Louisiana’s 2021 freshman runner-up, topped the individual standings Friday with a career best time of 17:17. .70 in the women’s 5,000 meter race. Rangel has been LSU’s top finisher in both meetings with the Tigers this fall, when she finished second in the 4,000 meters at the UNO Opener on September 2.

Freshman of the week:

Miles Brush, Kentucky

Kentucky’s Miles Brush had a freshman time topping the SEC this weekend, 25:17.10 with 8k at Cowboy Jamboree. He was the UK’s fifth-place finisher, helping the Kentucky men finish 18th as a team out of 26, of which 16 were ranked. Brush’s best 8k season: 24:40.65 last week at the North Alabama Showcase was fastest in the SEC by a freshman this season and 14th best in the convention overall.

Female freshman:

Mia Cochran, Arkansas

Arkansas’ Mia Cochran was fourth among freshmen in an elite teams field at Cowboy Jamboree, placing 24th overall on the 6,000m track in a time of 20:54.5. Cochran’s time is second among SEC freshmen, just behind Ole Miss’s Sophie Baumann from a previous race on her home turf, and is 10th overall in the 6,000m. in this season. Baumann finished 114th in the Jamboree race with a time of 22:10.7. Cochran trailed a pair of freshmen from Oklahoma State and a student from Stanford among the 223 runners. Cochran was second on the Razorback team as 9th Arkansas ranked 9th in team scores.
