Videos of the incident filmed by spectators that night at the Hollywood Bowl showed Lee slamming onto the stage and lunging at Chappelle. The comedian fell to the floor as many people ran to help. Lee was carried off the site on a stretcher after being injured by security officers who arrested him.
Lee has since pleaded not guilty to four misdemeanors of battery, possession of a weapon with intent to assault, unauthorized access to the stage area during a performance, and performing an act of delaying an event or interfere with the performer.
During the attack, Lee was armed with a shotgun that could project a blade, but he alleges that knife was never used. Lee is a rapper of “NoName_Trapper” and says he carries a weapon for protection because he’s a “little celebrity.”
Lee was angered by some of the jokes Chappelle made during his performance, especially about homelessness.

He also revealed that another comedian on the lineup that night made a joke about pedophilia, which Lee said reminded him of his own sexual abuse when he was a teenager.

Lee has also been charged with attempted murder after one of his former roommates spoke out after the attack. Lee allegedly stabbed his roommate while they were living in a transitional housing complex in December 2021.
“It was pretty much done,” Lee said of his criminal case with Chappelle.
“But maybe I only have to spend six months in prison (in jail) and have to do community service and live in a transitional home… maybe 15 years or more,” he added. “My son will grow up when I go out.”

Chappelle, 48, was unharmed in the attack and returned to complete his set after the incident blew up.
When Chappelle’s 2021 is special on Netflix Closer was released, some employees of the streaming company organized a walkout in protest, calling Chappelle’s jokes misrepresentation. Chappelle supported JK Rowling during the special, agreeing with her that “gender is a fact”.

Chappelle was issued a restraining order against Lee, who must stay at least 100 yards away from the comedian and any venues where he may be performing.
