Campaign launched by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi aims to arouse patriotism by exhorting compatriots throughout the country to fly the country’s flag between August 13 and 15 when the country completes 75 years of independence.
Yadav recalls the incident that took place on Republic Day in Kasganj 2018 during a Tiranga bicycle rally conducted by activists ABVP and VHP. Spme activists riding bicycles entered a Muslim-majority locality, where residents were preparing to raise national flags and arrange seats to match. Residents reportedly asked activists to take a different route. Clashes broke out when activists refused to do so and one student- Chandan Gupta- was killed after being hit by bullets, leading to days of violence and arson in the district. The opposition claimed that the incident was ‘pre-planned’ and took place under police protection.
“The people of the BJP rule only by division. Regarding this flag opening program, I would like to warn that the BJP can also cause danga while flying the flag. Along with Tiranga Yatra, the party can cause such incidents in society that can cause rifts. You will remember in Kasganj, in the name of Tiranga Yatra, how the people of BJP caused Hindu-Muslim riots,” Yadav told reporters while speaking on the anniversary of the socialist leader’s birthday. Meaning Janeshwar Mishra Yadav’s statement followed the BJP’s call for opposition parties not to take part in the ‘politicization’ of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Yadav also supported the campaign, asking people to fly the flag from the 9th to the 15th of August.
“Associating tricolor with rioting is unfortunate. Akhilesh Yadav should apologize. Tricolor does not belong to any class or sect, religion or class but is the pride of the whole earth. Akhilesh only associates it with riots because he can’t forget the riots that took place in every district in the state during his own tenure,” said Rakesh Tripathi, a spokesman for the BJP in the state.
