Briogeo Cleansing Bar cleans face, hair and body
I am extremely fascinated by shampoo bars. The idea of having a sturdy, plastic-free, easy-to-carry solution is very appealing. However, as someone with chronically dry 4C hair, I’ve always been afraid to try them, worried they won’t work on my frizzy hair. So when I found out Briogeo – a brand founded by Blacks – was launching its own moisturizing shampoo bar, I was thrilled.
“We wanted to prove to people that these bars could work,” said Nancy Twine, founder and CEO of Briogeo. “Hopefully when people try our recipe, they’ll become a believer and they’ll start converting.”
What makes Briogeo Aloe + Oat Milk Ultra Soothing Cleansing Bar ($25) particularly interesting is that it’s more than just a shampoo bar. “You can use it as a shampoo, you can use it as a shower gel and cleanser,” says Twine. “It’s a great shampoo. It’s very moisturizing. It has a luxurious lather. It’s so silky, like milk, and so gentle. And then on the body too, I find that sometimes I even don’t. no need to use lotion or lotion.” even use less lotion because it moisturizes just like my face. But it really feels like an A++ product for all three of those areas.”
I tried this bar on both my hair and skin and immediately fell in love. Because I use silicone hair conditioner and heat protectant, I foamed three times, which Twine would do herself if she felt a lot of residue on her scalp. “So I would wash my hair with a bar of soap, I would rinse and I would do that two more times, and by that third lather, I would feel like all the dirt was gone,” she said. A gorgeous foaming bar that uses gentle ingredients to help lift product buildup, natural oils, sweat and dirt from your skin and hair.
“All of our surfactants are coconut- or plant-based. So we don’t use any SLS, DEA or work-strengthening surfactants. There’s nothing harsh in the formula. So it’s really mild, but it’s clearly a very concentrated product because of the fact that there’s no water in the formula.”
This waterless formula also makes it more sustainable than traditional liquid cleaners. The most prominent ingredient in many beauty products is water, which makes them a lot heavier in transit and results in higher fuel emissions in transit. Twine says the three-in-one bar “weighs more than a bottle of shampoo plus a bottle of body wash and a bottle of cleanser”. “So it’s also a more eco-friendly means of transport.” Plus, it’s wrapped in an ultra-thin plastic wrap and then in a paper box, meaning it uses far less plastic than traditional cleansers.
This also makes it easier to travel. Twine said: “Like many people, I started traveling again and I always buy these cute little makeup bags and then they break because the stuff gets spilled, and those little jars run out. very fast. “I love the fact that I can get the solid stick, — which won’t leak — I can put it in my travel bag and literally, when I travel, I have shower gel, shampoo My head and I wash my face in this one product. Whether it’s traveling, going to the gym, whatever, it’s a very effective beauty product.”
In addition to convenience and efficiency, this bar has an extremely good formula. It’s packed with soothing aloe vera extract, anti-inflammatory green tea extract, protective fenugreek seed oil, and nourishing vitamins E and B5. I find that it leaves my hair super dry and my skin clean yet nourished. (Note that this bar is extremely moisturizing, which means it may not be suitable for those with thin and oily hair.) This is part of Briogeo’s Aloe + Oat collection, which is focused on providing solutions that are gentle yet effective for everyone — including those with skin conditions and-or sensitivities — that can use them. The ingredients in this collection are hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, gynecologist tested, ophthalmologist tested, etc.
Twine, who suffers from eczema, says: “The premise behind Aloe + Oat stems from a lot of my personal struggles with skin sensitivity.” “Being fragrance-free and essential oil-free is really important to me because I would get eczema and some ingredients can actually cause more inflammation and flare-ups.”
So far, Briogeo Aloe + Oat Cleansing Bar is the brand’s only solid product. “We really wanted to create a solid body oil and that is my hope and dream about how we extend the solids,” says Twine. So for now, you’ll need to combine it with a liquid conditioner. “If you have sensitive skin, I recommend Aloe + Oat Conditioner. But if you’re more flexible, as the other products in our line have a mild fragrance”, you can give it a try. “For example, if you have curly hair, you may want to use our Curl Charisma Conditioner ($39 to $124). If you have curly hair, you may want to use our Farewell Frizz Conditioner. ($28 to $69) If you have a lot of damage and breakage due to maybe you used a lot of heat or you dyed your hair, then you can use the Don’t Despair Repair Mask ($39). up to $124). You can really customize based on your specific needs and interests.”
Briogeo Aloe + Oat Milk Ultra Soothing 3-in-1 makeup remover is very good. If you (like me) are tired of trying a shampoo bar, this is the one to try. Especially since it also has such a great face and body. I think you will like it.
“This will definitely compete with your liquid shampoo in a bottle,” says Twine. “We’re doing something really unique and I’m excited for what’s to come such as more hair care solids.”
