Cher is mourning the death of her dear mother.
In a heartbreaking tweet shared over the weekend, the singer revealed her mother, Georgia Holt, has passed away at the age of 96.
“Mom is gone,” Cher, 76, announced alongside a sad face emoji.

The news comes just three months after Cher revealed her mother was hospitalized with pneumonia.
“Sorry, I’m Mia. My mother is constantly ill. She just got out of the hospital. She has pneumonia,” she wrote back in September.
“Home is her best medicine,” she added in a follow-up tweet. “She’s getting better.”
In the midst of a pandemic, Cher extremely “careful” when near her mother.
The If I could turn back time singer said People in 2020 that she will be tested for COVID-19 “all the time” and practice social distancing to keep her loved ones safe.
“We have a little bubble that we’ve had all this time,” says Cher. “We wore masks and there weren’t many of us. It was my sister, my brother-in-law, my mother, my assistant. And we were far apart.”
Holt is a model, singer, and actress who has appeared in both film and television, including I Love Lucy, Mike Douglas Performance and Merv Griffin Program.
Holt was married eight times during her lifetime, twice to Cher’s father John Sarkisian (1946–1947 and again from 1965–1966). Just before Cher’s first birthday, Sarkisian – a truck driver – walked out of the family. It was not until the age of 11 that Cher met her father.
“Since no one ever talked about him, I thought the topic was closed,” she recalled in her 1998 autobiography. First.
“When I was 11, my mom suddenly asked me, ‘Do you want to see your dad?’,” Cher wrote, recalling her first dinner with Sarkisian.
“I really want to like him, but he’s a stranger. He’s just a man who walks into our house with my smile.”
