Chinese President Xi Jinping’s zero-Covid policy failed miserably: Report

BEIJING [CHINA]: Nothing has shaken Chinese society under the President Xi Jinpingleadership’s so far than the “no Covid” policy seems to have failed miserably as China is still struggling to cope with the daily increase of cases in the country, according to the Colombo Gazette.
This policy was introduced by the government in view of a rise in coronavirus cases in China with 1,000 new cases reported every day. However, the no-Covid policy has led to fear, anger and confusion among the Chinese people due to repeated blockades in large areas.
Due to this policy, 31 Chinese cities are currently under lockdown, affecting the lives of more than 232 million people across the Asian country.
People fear for their livelihood as the government following the Covid-free policy has continued mass testing, quarantine and shutdown. Many have lost their jobs while others see their incomes change drastically. The lockdown has also dealt a heavy blow to the country’s economy.
According to recent monthly surveys, sentiment among manufacturing and service businesses in China has fallen to its lowest level since 2020.
According to the EU Chamber of Commerce in China, nearly 60% of European businesses in the country say they are cutting their 2022 revenue forecasts due to Covid control. Youth unemployment has hit a record 20% while heavily indebted local governments have been forced to spend on mass Covid testing, Colombo Gazette reported.
People were sitting on the street of Guangzhou to protest against the anti-Covid policy of the Chinese government.
Many people can be seen walking in the streets, chanting slogans in videos that have gone viral on social media. People refuse to go to quarantine centers.
People are also angry about shortages of food, urgent medical care and other essential services in China’s megacities.
According to a report in the Colombo Gazette, in China’s fight against Covid, one thing Xi has so far been reluctant to do is use a foreign-made mRNA vaccine. Xi’s government has praised self-reliance in the fight against Covid, promoting domestic vaccines based on inactivated versions of the virus and banning all foreign vaccines from entering the market.
The report also said that the lack of transparency about the efficacy and waning durability of Chinese vaccines also worries many Chinese. According to interviews and private social media chat groups seen by the Financial Times (report dated December 7, 2021), Chinese parents have in recent months quietly sought to refuse consent for your child to be vaccinated.
Reports also claim that provincial and municipal governments in China have declared adverse reactions to Chinese vaccines in China including death and serious injury of the recipient.
