Competitor Transfer Gateway – Year ACC kicks off in 2022


Believe it or not, we are in week 4 of the 2022 college football season. A big part of the excitement fans are experiencing is due to the transfer. Today, we take a look at five transfers that made an early-season impact at ACC.

Trey Benson, Florida State

Benson dashed with a career-high 105 yards and a touchdown in Seminoles’ season opener against Duquesne. He ranked third in the ACC for yards per take (7.0) and first in the top 10 for dash yards (190).

During his career at OregonBenson appeared in nine games and dashed six times in 22 yards and one touchdown.

Tyler Hudson, Louisville

One of the top FCS recipients, Hudson joined the Cardinals in the spring and led the team with 15 hits for 209 yards, while averaging 13.9 yards per reception. Through three games, Hudson finished third in the conference in number of receptions and sixth in yards. The Cardinals have gone through quite a bit of change in their spacious reception room. Hudson for midfielders Malik Cunningham an experienced and trustworthy target.

Jared Verse, Florida State

The big question about Verse when he arrives State of Florida from an FCS show is whether he can resist the Power Five competition. So far, Verse has been pretty impressive.

He led the FSU with four rescues and three covers. In a breakout game against LSU, all three of Verse’s tackles fall behind the script’s fence – two tackles and 2.5 tackles lost. He also saved a goal in the second half. His performance against LSU earned him the title of ACC Club Defensive Player of the Week.

Verse got out of FSU’s game at Louisville in the second quarter due to injury.

Grant Wells, Virginia Tech

There aren’t many transferable midfielders starting from ACC, but we have to talk about one of them.

After a bad start with Virginia Technology During his career, launching four interceptions in a loss to Old Dominion, Wells now ranks second among ACC defenders in pass completions (63), fourth in passes (96) and fifth on completion rate (65.6). He threw 651 yards and four touchdowns, and went 66 yards and one touchdown. The Hokies face a rapid change tonight as they host the team Wells loved when he was growing up – West Virginia.

Johnny Wilson, State of Florida

Wilson leads the FSU with 11 catches, 260 yards and 23.6 yards per reception this year. The average number of yards per reception is 5th nationally. Against Louisville, Wilson set a career record with seven catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns – the first two touches of his Seminole career. The yardage and two touchdowns also surpass what he has achieved in eight games in two seasons at State of Arizona (243 yards and one touch).

For his performance in Louisville, Wilson was named ACC Broad Recorder of the Week.
