NEW DELHI: With the government’s unwillingness to respond to Congress’s request to keep it in power relevant standing committee (DRSC) on Housewifery in the Rajya Sabha, the party likely to accept the next best available offer – leads the DRSC on commerce in the Senate.

There are a total of 24 department-related parliamentary standing committees that are re-established annually. The chairmen of eight committees are appointed by the RS chair and 16 DRSCs under the supervision of Speaker LS. Each board consists of 21 members from LS and 10 members from RS.
Although the Rules of Procedure of both Houses are silent on an established procedure by which a political party will lead a DRSC or another parliamentary committee in the National Assembly, the allocation of the presidency between the parties have been governed by well-established conventions, accepted by consensus, that at least some DRSCs – including the DRSC currently in dispute over family matters – will be contested by the opposing party. established leaders, regardless of their number.
