Bungie hasn’t been afraid to rethink, remix, and overhaul parts of Fate 2 over the past five years, and one aspect of the game that’s getting a significant refresh is Iron Banner – the fun, more casual side of Crucible PvP. Because season 17 of the Life 2Bungie is changing the way Iron Banner plays, both in terms of its rewards split and the core gameplay it’s built around.
One of the bigger changes: Bungie is disabling the power level in Iron Banner to level the playing field. (Power levels will still work during the Osiris Test, Bungie noted.)
Iron Banner players will also have a new place to play, in the form of a brand new map called Disjunction – the first brand new map for the game. Life 2 PvP for about two years – set “in the Swamp Pyramids area of Savathûn’s Throne World, so expect lots of hairy horses, transparent brown glass, and art deco designs,” Bungie said.
Part 17 of Fate 2 will see the return of the Rift, Destiny’s gun-to-ball PvP mode, to replace Control in Iron Banner. And Bungie said it plans to switch Iron Banner game modes each season, noting that, “Sometimes it can be a whole new mode or re-shooting mode, sometimes it can be a change. Interesting change to an existing regime.”
Iron Banner is also getting new daily challenges, dropping Iron Banner tokens and getting new rewards, among other changes. To familiarize players both new and old with Iron Banner, Saladin will give players a new, mandatory quest to explain the new features of the PvP mode.
“You only have to run through it once per account, but with this reset we want everyone to get the same intro, even Iron Banner veterans will need to do this ,” said Bungie. “Actually, you will need to start this quest to access the Iron Banner button.”
Part 17 of Fate 2 going live on May 24th. More details on upcoming changes to Fate 2Iron Banner mode and its new Disjunction map are available in Bungie’s weekly blog.
