Elden Ring harder with modified Fisher-Price toy controller

Elden Ring is hard enough. But that’s even more difficult when you’re playing with a toy controller for kids. Self-described “builder of weird controllers”, streamer Rudeism shared that he created a fully functional controller using the Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn Game & Learning Controller on April 30. He then shared a video showing him using the controller to play Elden Ring.

Rudeism first got the idea to make it out of a Wario64 tweets shared the sale of a colorful Fisher-Price controller as a joke, saying it was “perfect for Elden Ring. The toy is aimed at children under six months of age and is advertised as providing “hands-on learning for your little gamers.”

Modified controller that fully functions as an Xbox controller and keeps the features of the original children’s toy so you can learn your ABCs and become Lord of Elden. Rudeism posted a video of the controller playing with Elden Ring and when he presses the buttons, an energetic voice explains the color of the buttons like “Blue!” and “Orange!” every time he presses it.

Rudeism explained to Polygon on Twitter how he made it. He started by connecting the Arduino to an existing breadboard, then programmed the Arduino to act as an Xbox device. He then replaced the joystick, added some extra switches for the shoulders, and “then shoved everything back in.” According to him, the hardest part is fitting all the parts inside. Rudeism told Polygon it took about two weeks in total to build the controller.

The controller is clearly missing a few buttons common to regular video game controllers; one of the biggest missing components is the second thumb. Instead of two thumbs, there’s a yellow switch on the bottom controller that can be toggled to toggle the controller between left and right thumbs.

Oddly enough, the controller works surprisingly well for FromSoftware games, says Rudeism: “I’ll be testing with a few games to see what works and which doesn’t, but for now , I know that I will use it to defeat Elden Ring. ” You too posted a clip play Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater and tricks are strung together easily.

As for future plans, he’ll keep tinkering with it. People have reached out to see if he will receive a commission. He told Polygon, “I’m not quite at that stage yet, I’m still working on the quality of my builds, but I think this is a huge step in the right direction!”
