Emmanuel Macron calls Ukraine referendums ‘cynical’ and ‘a parody’

NEW YORK: The referendums planned in Russian-occupied regions of Ukraine on joining Russia will not be recognized by the international community, French President Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday, when he called the plans “sceptical” and “a parody”.
“If the Donbas referendum idea wasn’t so tragic, it would be funny,” he told reporters.
Say in New YorkMacron said referendum proposals for the east Ukraine was an additional provocation after Russia invaded its neighbour.
“I think what was published by Russia is a parody,” Macron said. “This is mockery, and it is clear that it will not be recognized by the international community.”
Russian-installed leaders in occupied parts of four Ukrainian regions have laid out plans for referendums on joining Russia, a move Kyiv was fired by Moscow as a stuntman trying to regain the initiative after resounding losses on the battlefield.
