Ethereum Developers Propose ‘Consolidation’ on September 15th
After years of delay, Ethereum developers were scheduled to schedule a “merge,” targeted for the week of September 15.
Consolidation is a major software upgrade that will move Ethereum from a proof-of-work consensus model to a proof-of-stake, with the aim of significantly reducing its environmental impact and improving its network efficiency. But due to the complexity of the effort, the merge launch date directly on the Ethereum blockchain has been pushed up numerous times.
During the Ethereum Foundation’s Consensus Layer call on Thursday, those working on the consolidation signaled that the highly anticipated upgrade will happen sooner than ever, aiming for September 15 or 16. .
However, many factors can change that timeframe and the developers have made it clear that the timeframe is just an estimate and nothing has been finalized yet.
This comes after Ethereum’s final dress rehearsal for a merger went smoothly for the most part with Goerli – one of the largest and most active Ethereum test networks – moving to ancient proof. part on Wednesday night. Despite a few hiccups, the developers seem to have resolved any issues and feel comfortable proceeding with the mainnet or main blockchain merge.
Following the announcement of the expected timeline, the Ethereum community exploded with excitement.
“In just ~5 weeks, Ethereum will permanently leave proof of work,” EthHub co-founder Anthony Sassano, better known as Sassal, tweeted on Thursday. “Consolidation is imminent.”
