Cleveland Browns Heading to 2022-23 Season, Looks Like Same Lovecan put out fires that we’ve known for many years.

DeShaun Watson appeared to be on the verge of being suspended for at least a season, and the team showed Baker Mayfield a way out before officially kicking him out of the building. Former Browns QB Robert Griffin III thinks the Browns should return to Mayfield if Watson isn’t available this fall.

“I think the Browns should give the olive branch to Baker and ask him to stay if Deshaun Watson is suspended for a substantial period of time,” he said. Griffin said. “Baker has proven in this city he can win a playoff, get you to the knockouts and do all that. Last year, he played painful and not very effective. The bottom line is that Baker Mayfield is better than Jacoby Brissett, that’s just the bottom line. And if you’re going to have to play a full season with a guy, your best option is to go back to Baker Mayfield and beg him to stay.”

What Griffin is suggesting sounds like a terrible idea. Cleveland revealed their true feelings about Baker months ago. The Browns announced they wanted to “an adult“Lead the group, then go out and trade for DeShaun Watson. Cleveland exchanged for Watson with full knowledge of 22 civil lawsuits about accused sexually assaulted at the time.

After everything that has happened this season, it will be difficult to go back the way RG3 has set it up. The Browns have gone public and told the world that they are divorcing Mayfield. Now they put him in as a replacement only to find out that he will likely be on a long hiatus. And RG3 hopes the franchise returns to the person they just said he’s no longer needed. Oh, that sounds like a great plan. NOT!

Mayfield gave her thoughts on a potential reconciliation with the Browns. “No, I think for that to happen, there’s going to have to be some contact, but we’re ready to move on, I think, on both sides,” Mayfield explained.

You really can’t blame Baker for feeling that way. Cleveland told him to go. They searched for deals and couldn’t find a scenario they liked. But they refused to release him and continued. It was a difficult situation.

Mayfield will at least garner moderate attention on the open market, but under the current circumstances we’ve only seen a few teams show genuine interest. Seattle Seahawks and the Carolina Panthers. And no institution is attractive enough to trade valuable assets. Looks like they’re waiting for the Browns to cave and slit his throat.

Either way, I think it’s a horrible idea presented by Griffin. Even if the Browns reach out and Baker considers that, I think it’s another disaster waiting to happen. Cleveland needs to move on and let Mayfield find a new team. Both sides are in error, and it ended. Differences cannot be reconciled. Pick a reason and it certainly applies to this situation.

If the Browns come back and ask Baker to stay after Watson’s fate is sealed, he should tell them, thanks, but no thanks. He shouldn’t even think about going back. I’m not usually this petty, but it would be awkward to return to lead this team when they’re supposed to be done with you. If I’m Mayfield, I’m passing the chance. He had bet on himself in the past, and it worked. It’s time for Baker to regain that confidence and bet on himself again.
