Filipinas scores 9-0 goal against Papua New Guinea to end 2022 campaign

MANILA, Philippines–The Philippines women’s soccer team wrapped up its memorable 2022 campaign on Thursday with a strong 9-0 win over Papua New Guinea at Wanderers Football Park in Sydney, Australia.
Quinley Quezada scored the first hat-trick of her career while Katrina Guillou scored twice as the Philippines dominated the team two places above them in the women’s world rankings for the second time in a row.
Teacher and coach Alen Stajcic won the first meeting, 5-1December 11 last year at the same yard.
“These matches [were] Our 29th and 30th internationals this calendar year will end a historic and monumental year for the team with a lot of achievements,” said Stajcic.
The The Philippines team won the right to participate in the FIFA Women’s World Cup next year at the same time grasp Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) Women’s Football Championship and a bronze medal at the Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
The Philippines produced solid results in friendlies against Ireland, World Cup co-hosts New Zealand, Costa Rica and Chile during the year-end period.
Sara Eggesvik scored the opening goal 11 minutes into the game while Jessika Cowart and Tahnai Annis also scored for the Philippines.
