Is it really surprising to anyone that the very people who are trying to censor Black and LGBT history through book bans are the same people that PROMOTE white supremacy and Nazism? Because there seems to be an ongoing thread here!
As Perezcious readers will recall, Amanda GormanPoems are welcome The hill we climbWritten for and performed at President Joe BidenHis inauguration, was partially banned at a Florida public school due to its “hate message.” If you’ve ever read or heard that poem, you know it’s a BS group. So what happened?
Well, under the Governor Ron DeSantis‘, who just officially announced his candidacy for president btw, the FL schools were really excited. Under their new rules, it only takes one parent to complain for a literary work to be considered, and everything must go through a review board to be within reach of children. And only ONE mother has requested that the poem be removed from the school library because of its obnoxious nature and the fact that it is “not educational.”

If it’s still not clear enough why someone might object to a young black woman’s poem, the mother even acknowledges the poem as Oprah Winfrey not Amanda. Plus, it was this mother who ended up being banned for another OTHER title, a book about the famous Renaissance poet Harlem Langston Hughes. She didn’t ask Love Langston this time it was “non-educational” – no, her whole excuse was that it was too educational. She writes simply “CRT” – or Critical Race Theory. That’s right, because even talking about a Negro’s history or a Negro’s accomplishments is scary “CRT.” Total. Author Tony Medina tweeted about the issue on Tuesday, including a copy of the parent-signed ban request sheet (below):

And yes, they banned this book with just this one complaint! It was the same mother who got some books on Cuba banned.
Well, that’s a pretty obvious attack on minority speech, isn’t it? Well, it turns out that’s not a surprise considering the origin. After the mother’s name was made public, the tiniest bit of investigation discovered that this mother also had some ties to some other disturbing things…
The gruesome details of this mother who has been identified by Miami emissary EQUAL Daily Salinahave a relationship with Proud boys. In a series of photos posted by Miami against fascism On Twitter, Salinas can be seen at several rallies for the fascist group. She can even be seen standing next to her Enrique Tarriothe group’s neo-Nazi leader, who was convicted of conspiracy to sedition last month:

And if that’s still not enough to convince you HOW HUGE this is all, Salinas herself Facebook account where she praises The Proud Boys, using the phrase “the best” in Spanish in response to them, she also posts… drum rolls… Nazi propaganda. We are not exaggerating.
In a post just months before her book ban began, she shared her support for Protocols of the Elders of Zionaccording to Jewish Telegraph Service. In case you’ve never heard of it, it was a piece of infamous anti-Semitic propaganda that inspired Adolf Hitler. He even mentioned in his infamous manifesto Myanmar. It was used during the rise of the Nazi party as propaganda to build hatred for the Jews. IN The Holocaust: The Destruction of European Jews 1933-1945author Nora Levin explain:
“Hitler used protocol as a handbook in his war on the extermination of the Jews.
Yes, this is the book that Salinas advertised on her Facebook page! The post even included a listing describing a conspiracy theory in which the “Zionists” would rule the world. Some stages of the list even say terrible things like:
“Place our agents and helpers everywhere.”
“Replace royal rule with socialism, then communism, then autocracy.”
“Sacrifice people (sometimes including Jews) when necessary.”
Yes. We told you we are not exaggerating. This is outspoken Nazi propaganda being shared in the United States in 2023. When JTA revealed what Salinas posted, she confirmed it – reply to the store with excuses and half-hearted apologies! She speaks:
“I want to apologize to the Jewish community. I am not what the article says. I love the Jewish community.”
She went on to say that she hadn’t read the word “communism” in the post — and therefore had no idea what she was promoting. She said her chest was “tightening” with pain when she realized that people were treating her as anti-Semitic – you know, for posting a blatantly anti-Semitic post:
“I see the word ‘communism’, and I think that’s something about communism. I didn’t read the words… We [Christians] are super defenders of the Jewish people.
Salinas also makes sure to add that she has Jewish friends and that she loves Israelis. Netflix series Fauda. As for the books on Cuba that she’s banned, she says they “don’t tell the whole story of Cuba, communism, dictators, their people dying and trying to try to come to America.” And even though her Facebook page is filled with right-wing BSs that none of us are shocked to see – she claims she doesn’t post everything that you see there. Video of the mother at a meeting for Mothers for freedom group, who were very supportive of DeSantis, was also circulating. But she insists she is not a member of this group or The Proud Boys. A representative for Moms for Liberty even released a statement distanced from her after the reveal, saying she is not a member and that they “denounce anti-Semitism in all its forms”.
And just when you think this couldn’t get any more ridiculous – when asked again why she wanted to ban all these books, Salinas said it was just her “opinion” and that they didn’t “support” support the curriculum” – but declined to elaborate. She also blatantly admitted that she didn’t read them, meaning that she lied on the forms she filled out:
“They had to read to me because I was no expert. I am not a reader. I’m not a fan of reading books. I am a mother involved in the education of my children.”
Shock…
A representative for the school district again asserted that Gorman’s poem was not banned outright, but was sent to middle school, not elementary school. But this is just a tiptoe before a big step forward. It’s a partial ban. When Gorman himself hit back:
“A school book ban is any action taken against a book that causes access to the book to be restricted or reduced. The decision to move my book from its original location, made after a parent complaint, reduced the access of former elementary students to my poem.”
With people like DeSantis in charge, allowing people like Salinas to make such big decisions with so little effort or expertise, things are only going to get worse from here on out in the Sunshine State!
