Four Iran security force members killed in attack: State media
TEHRAN: A ‘terrorist’ attack killed four members of Iransecurity forces in the southeast of the country, state news agency IRNA reported on Monday.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Members were killed “in an act of terror” in the Saravan region of Sistan-Baluchistan province near the Pakistani border.
The area is one of Iran’s poorest and is home to the Baluchi minority, who are more of a Sunni Muslim than the dominant Shiite branch in Iran.
“The strong presence of security forces pushed elements of the group to flee towards Pakistan,” IRNA said, without providing more details about the attackers.
The area has previously been hit by clashes with drug cartels as well as rebels from the Baluchi and Sunni Muslim minority groups.
Since the September 16 death while police detained Mahsa Amini in the capital Tehran, protesters in Sistan-Baluchistan have also rallied in anti-regime protests that have spread across the country.
