Fun combination of club, school talent with Hefeng Juniors in Taiwan
More than 50 Filipino fencing athletes will compete in the Hefeng National Junior Championships, a two-day event starting May 27, at Linkou Middle School in New Taipei City for the first time. in New Taipei City, Taiwan.
Coming from a variety of clubs and schools, including Canlas Fencing Academy and Republic Fencing, Filipinos will witness the action in leaf,épée and sword events in several categories from seven to 17 years old.
Wrapping up an impressive campaign in the third leg of the National Ranking event, Opao Catantan, sister of Sam and Ysah, campaigners for the recent Cambodia Southeast Asian Games, will lead the team. Philippines.
13-year-old Opao, an 8th grader at Oriental University, will compete in both the U15 and U17 categories.
Among those notable for watching the action were leaf-sword athlete Victoria Ebdane, sisters Jodie and Jazleen Tan, Yuna and Yuri Canlas, Hagia del Castillo, Jaide Uy, Jonie Ching, Willa Galvez and RF’s Ina Pascual.
Recently, Yuri Canlas won a double gold medal at the U8 and U10 ages at the Admiral Fencing tournament in Alabang.
