‘Game of Thrones’ Prequel Trailer for ‘House of the Dragon’ – The Hollywood Reporter

Dragons are back on HBO.

A new trailer for the long awaited Game of Thrones prequel series Dragon’s House has been released.

Set 200 years before the events of the original series, it became HBO’s highest-grossing series ever and the most Emmy-winning TV series of all time.

The new series is by saga creator George RR Martin (based on his book Fire & Blood) and hosts Ryan Condal and Miguel Sapochnik.

Dragon star Paddy Considine (Peaky Blinders) as King Viserys/Targaryen, Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One) as Alicent Hightower, Emma D’Arcy (Wanderlust) as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Matt Smith (Which doctor?) as Prince Daemon Targaryen.

HBO technically calls this new footage a trailer before even claiming that the network previously released the official trailer in October and that the video is broader in scope.

The series, which premieres August 21, is a major HBO initiative that hopes to recapture some of the magic of Game of Thronesrepresents over a billion in revenue during its run from 2011 to 2019. The company also has a number of other prequel projects set in the world of Westeros in various stages of development and Dragon’s House good performance will be a good sign that Take could be turned from a single hit series into a franchise series.

However, there are some difficulties, as the content market has grown much more crowded in recent years, fantasy shows become much richer (Netflix) The WitcherAmazon’s Wheel of time) and the series will face another big fantasy launch: Amazon’s big budget The The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerpremieres only 12 days later Dragon. Still Take brand is formidable, and given that HBO has eliminated an expensive false start (one Thrones prequel project starring Naomi Watts, which filmed a pilot in 2019), the network has shown its determination to get the sequel right.

The Hollywood Reporter previously asked Sapochnik how the look, feel and tone of the upcoming film will differ from the original film.

“I think we have a lot of respect for what the original show is,” says Sapochnik. “It’s not broken, so we’re not trying to reinvent the wheel. Dragon’s House has its own melody that will develop and emerge throughout the show. But first, it’s very important to pay homage and respect to the original series, which is quite groundbreaking. We’re standing on the shoulders of that show and we’re just here for that show. So the most important thing for us is to respect that show as much as possible and try to complement it rather than reinvent it. And I participated in the implementation of the original program, so I feel it is very useful. Like, I’m not going to, ‘Let’s change things! Let’s make another palette! ‘ No, I quite like the palette.

“That said, we can’t say, ‘Well, when we’ve Throneswe can do it this way…’” he added. “If you start every sentence with that, you lose. This is something else, and should be something else. It was a different crew, different people, different voices. Hopefully, it will be seen as something else. But it will have to earn it – it won’t happen overnight. Hopefully, fans will enjoy it for that. We’ll be lucky if we get close to what the original show was Game of Thrones Title.”
