JAKARTA: The huge dome of the Grand Mosque of the Jakarta Islamic Center in Indonesia collapsed on Wednesday after a massive fire broke out.
Dramatic social media footage shows the moment the mosque’s dome collapsed, however, officials say there were no casualties, Gulf Today reported.
The dome was destroyed by a fire during the renovation. Firefighters were alerted to the fire shortly after 3 p.m. local time, with at least 10 fire engines dispatched to the scene, Indonesian media reported.

The video shows flames and smoke rising from the dome of the mosque just before it collapsed.
The cause of the fire is still unknown. Media reports suggested that the Islamic Center was under renovation at the time.
No one was injured in the fire or the subsequent collapse. Local media added that police are investigating the cause of the fire and have questioned contractors working in the building, Gulf Today reported.
In addition to the mosque, the Islamic Center complex also houses educational, commercial and research facilities.
The mosque’s dome last caught fire during renovations nearly 20 years ago, with the October 2002 fire taking five hours to extinguish, Gulf Today reports.
