Summary of the story of God of War
God of War 2018 takes place well after the events of the original God of War trilogy and brings our hero Kratos from the world of Greek mythology to Northern Europe. The game opens with Kratos and his son Atreus preparing the funeral for Faye, Kratos’ second wife and Atreus’ mother.
After an unforgettable battle sequence with The Stranger (later revealed to be Baldur, the Norse God of Light), Kratos and Atreus embark on a journey to fulfill Faye’s last wish: her ashes. scattered from the top of the highest mountain in the kingdom. And so began the duo’s journey.
Kratos and Atreus encounter (and often battle) mythical creatures and gods from Norse mythology, while also exploring their interpersonal drama – specifically Kratos’ shortcomings as is a father and the demigod identity he chooses to hide in an attempt to continue from the atrocities he has committed throughout the previous God of War games.

Kratos interferes with their family’s squabble, killing Baldur to save Freya against her will. As a result, she vows to “vent every pain, every violation imaginable” on Kratos, making her one of the two main villains in Ragnarok.
Kratos reveals his past to Atreus, who then ascends the mountain and completes the quest by scattering Frey’s ashes. At the top of the mountain, they also discover the giants Jotnar foresaw their entire journey, and Kratos sees a mural of what might be to come: a dying Kratos being possessed by Atreus hold, a snake emerges from the mouth of the latter.
In a final reveal, we learn that Atreus is actually the deceitful Loki. A post-production sequence then establishes Ragnarok’s other major villain: Thor.

Gameplay of God of War Ragnarok
Like 2018’s God of War, Ragnarok will descend and flow smoothly between the “big bosses of the show”, smaller-scale brawls, and quieter moments between Kratos and Atreus. While that pacing will be familiar, the combat options in those moments have been expanded, as evidenced in Ragnarok’s gameplay trailer, which introduces new attack abilities for Kratos and a Million New Runic Recovery for Atreus.
As listed on Ragnarok’s PS . Store page, Kratos will gain access to his Leviathan Ax, Blade of Chaos, and Guardian Shield “along with a host of new abilities”. Among those new abilities is how Kratos uses Blades of Chaos for vertical purposes: Blades can be used as a grappling hook to extend altitude (á la Halo Infinite) and close the distance between enemies (á la Mortal Kombat). See for yourself:
Kratos will also have a bunch of new Norse creatures to utilize those abilities. A new enemy we saw in the gameplay trailer is a centaur-like creature called The Stalker (see below). We also got a glimpse of the giant wolf Fenrir in the most recent CG trailer, though time will tell whether he’s friend or foe.
One final addition to the transmission worth mentioning is the introduction Speki and SvannaWolves are seen dragging Kratos and Atreus across the frozen Kowloon Lake in the aforementioned gameplay trailer.

Barlog has also confirmed Ragnarok will mark the end of the series ‘Norse saga. That’s something of a surprise considering the success of the first game, but for Barlog, the point is not to stretch the story too long past a trilogy: “We’re talking about a period of time. almost fifteen years of a single story and I feel like it’s too intense. I feel like we’re asking too much to say that finishing the story really took that long… it just felt so long. “
Most recently, we learned that Dark Horse will be releasing a God of War Ragnarok Art Book with the game on Nov. 9. The book features hundreds of pages of concept art, developer commentary, and other behind-the-scenes content.
During the development of Ragnarok, Sony also announced a TV show God of War for Prime Video. Little is known about the series, although it is said that live-action. According to a report published in March, the TV adaptation could come from the creators The Expanse.
