Heart stops beating debuted on Netflix earlier this year to widespread acclaim. Based on Types Trending TV chart, it received 1.05 million interactions on Twitter and earned 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. It also has an avid young audience.
The show is based on Alice Oseman’s webcomic series of the same name. It follows teenagers Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) and Nick Nelson (Kit Conner) as their friendship develops into something more.
It stars many young LGBTQ+ actors and explores their relationships and stories through a hopeful lens.
The series’ creator said she wants the show to “inspire young people – especially LGBTQ+ young people – to be whoever they want to be, and believe they can find happiness, found love and found friendship, because it’s a fun story… Everyone can get something out of it.”
Heart stops beating very popular of all ages, although older viewers who watched the show found their joy stifled by overwhelming grief after watching the show.
One Twitter user said: “Happy for the younger generations to have this avatar, but also forever sad for my teenage years to know what I went through and still have to live with the consequences. its fruit.”
Heartstopper has been renewed for two more seasons, and more webcomic issues are being released, although Oseman is currently on hiatus.
