Hyundai Mobis launches health monitoring controller
South Korea-based Hyundai Mobis, the auto parts arm of Hyundai Motor Group, has unveiled an integrated vehicle controller with health monitoring capabilities.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Dubbed the Smart Cabin, the controller has four sensors: a 3D camera that records the driver’s posture, an ECG sensor mounted on the steering wheel, and a sensor placed in the ear to measure brain waves running around the ear. and an HVAC sensor to measure cabin temperature or humidity and carbon dioxide levels. It then analyzes the recorded vital signs, including posture, heart rate, and brain waves.
According to a press release, the device can recommend the user to switch to autonomous driving mode if the ECG sensor detects that the driver has high stress levels. The controller also has the ability to open the window or switch to the outside circulation mode if it perceives the CO2 level inside is too high.
WHY IT IMPORTANT
Hyundai Mobis is working to develop safety technology that focuses on the driver rather than the vehicle’s performance. It hopes that its latest product will help turn vehicles into a “moving health check-up center”.
The company plans to upgrade the Smart Cabin to add more features, such as motion sickness prevention, stress management, and drunk driving blocking. In the future, it is also expected that the controller will be able to guide a car to the emergency room in the event of an emergency, such as a cardiac arrest.

Hyundai Mobis has launched bio-health technologies in recent years to promote public safety. The launch of Smart Cabin after its release M.Brain, the first brainwave-based health monitoring system for drivers developed by Hyundai Mobis. Smartphone-enabled headsets can notify drivers if they lose focus while driving.
The company has also added health monitoring features to its cockpit system offering. Called M.VICS, the system features an ECG sensor, surveillance camera and motion sickness reduction technology.
