I suffer from America Fatigue Syndrome, do you? | Opinions

I’m so tired of the United States of America.

Perhaps you too are tired of America. You can be an American – like many of us outside of America – exhausted by and with America.

If that’s any consolation, burnout is one of the notable symptoms of Fatigue Syndrome in America, a condition I suspect much of the sentient world suffers from – a consciously or unconsciously. Other signs include near-chronic agitation, confusion, and feelings of déjà vu.

Sadly, as far as I know, there is no cure.

American Fatigue is not a fragment of a neurotic imagination. The discomfort, fatigue, and recurrent bouts of déjà vu it causes are real.

I feel it all the time. I feel it in my bones and in my mind. It is a weight. An albatross bird. A constant. One drain. Push down, down. Can you feel it?

A few countries can do that for you. America is one of them. You could say America is exceptional in this regard.

Lately, more than ever, I want America to disappear, and, for once, be silent or be silent – just for a moment. I need, perhaps like you, to take a breather and enjoy a little respite from the ubiquitous presence and ugliness of America.

What a tonic and enjoyable, if not necessary, review or write-up of America.

Of course it’s not possible. We cannot turn off or change the US dialing. America’s symphony of sadness, anger, and depression is inevitable. America is everywhere, around the clock.

America invaded all of us.

However, it seems to me at least that America’s grip on our psyche and attention is even sharper today. America dominates in familiar ways: money, power, and the 24-hour news cycle.

And bad news, bad, bad. One convulsion after another. Repeat over and over, until new seizures appear. Every single sound reverberates like an earthquake, damaging people and places in tangible and intangible ways.

It has been like this for a while. Especially since 9/11. Year after year. President after president. One war, then another. Death. Loss of hope and home. Secret dungeon. Torture and other transgressions – large and small. Outbursts of hatred, violence and ignorance. 26 children were massacred at school. Their murders were “a hoax.” 100% proof the fascists are riding the escalator into the presidency. Many outbursts of hatred, violence and ignorance. A white police officer knelt on the neck of a black man for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. Disinfectants and other magic potions to control the plague. An uprising to defend a lie.

No never ends.

The latest seizure occurred earlier this week. Five men and one woman in black robes have apparently decided to do what they once promised, sworn, not to do: overturn a Supreme Court ruling made 49 years ago that warrants the a woman’s roots on her body.

Precursor deleted. Permissions removed. The process has been deleted. Replaced by religious extremism masquerading as jurisprudence and a kind of authoritarianism, it’s not surprising that men dictate their own fates to women.

In removing Roe v Wade, Justice Samuel Alito and his rotten right-wing coalitions revealed another “big lie” about America – that it is a country governed by the rule of law and not not the passions of the priest.

Alito and the evangelist company also made this clear: The Supreme Court, like other institutions representing the “pillars” of democracy, is a sober-sounding farce, mainly because reactionary fanatics treat the law and the constitution. contempt and those who call a preening vandal their patron saint.

Crazier in a crazy addict country.

The country – if America can be called that – is for no reason. Instead, it was mired in a perpetual state of madness. Not all, mind you. Enlightened Americans were exiled inside America, watching the rest of America go mad.

America is rolling from the center outwards – not at the edge, otherwise known as the “edge”. When, as Yeats wrote: “Everything fell apart; the center failed to hold”.

The “edge” cuckoo is now mainstream.

This, combined with the unrelenting fury that is a hallmark of much of America, creates a toxic and corrosive beer that erodes America’s already legendary foundation.

A black hole is swallowing America. It is growing bigger and darker. Every day, many Americans — most, but not only, Republicans — are caught in an inevitable spiral of anger that turns into amnesia.

Their US-made lunatics and brands are on regular display. You know the names of lunatics. They were invited on TV and radio by charlatans to share their thoughts on draining their synapses in order to add to the frenzy of playing and paying well in America.

Despite their impressive degrees and academic arrogance, Alito, Roberts, Kavanaugh, Gorsuch, Thomas, and Coney Barrett could watch and listen and nod approvingly – confirming, but again, that these Smart fanatics are the most dangerous.

Foolishly, I had hoped that with his loss of conviction in early November 2020, the lunatic general manager’s appeal would fade like the embers of a dying fire.

I’m wrong.

The calm I longed for never came.

Today, looming on the horizon, the insane commander-in-chief waits, dangling coveted endorsements and plots at Mar-a-Lago, ready to reclaim his title of commander-in-chief.

He is still mocking us. The prospect of convulsions lasting another 4 years is overwhelming.

At this point in a column, the writer is obliged to give a remedy, a prescription or a remedy. I am at a loss.

I don’t know if there is a cure, a prescription, or a cure for the maddening disease that is moving its wicked path through America.

It may be too late.
