OH! Word out Cannes was pretty strong about the supposed show HBOnext important thing. What we’ve heard is mostly about how graphic and erotic it is – but obviously that’s nothing compared to how bad it is??
The first wave of reviews came out Idolcreator Sam Levinsontrack of Happiness. show stars Lily-Rose Depp And Weekend and follows the life of a fictional pop star. But apparently the hits weren’t made by the show’s main character – they were made by the series itself!
As of this writing, the series has 27% on Rotten tomatoes and 26 on Metacritic. These are poor marks for movies but absolutely GREAT in the world of TV! Critics tend to spend more time when the story doesn’t need to be closely connected, has a buffet form because few critics take the time to watch all the episodes… Suffice it to say, TV scores are often so much better. This is not just bad. They are the worst in HBO history!

Brand was born by Sopranos has become synonymous with prestige television, so these scores are shocking! The most underrated drama we could find before is Time Traveler’s Wife with 45 Metascore. Other unusually underrated HBO dramas include Here and now (46) and John From Cincinnati (50). That’s at least half of the critics who won. The most underrated comedy is Ja’mie: Private Schoolgirl (40). Even things that seem to be pervaded by malice velvet ended up with a Metascore of 54. Double what Idol is now! Wild…
What’s wrong with it?
collider called it “sex-obsessed, shallow and sometimes painfully predictable.” playlists called it “a false, gross, ignorant and untenable vanity project” – and said Lily “deserves better”. Diversity wrote that it “seems to be calculated to fool audiences into thinking they are observing how Hollywood operates, when much of it is just ludicrous clichés lifted from Sidney Sheldon light novels and eroticism. Rolling Stone stuck with their gun, rating the show EXTREMELY low, arguing:
“While it’s tempting to say that everything you’ve heard about it is true, it can give you a chills from actually watching this satirical (?) movie about seven rings. round of showbiz hell. The double dose that the festival showcases feels nasty, brutal, much longer than it actually is, and much worse than you might expect.
But who knows how the audience will feel, right? This isn’t the first time they’ve diverged from critics. Would YOU give the show a shot ??
