‘If I can’t have them, neither can you’: Father accused of drowning his three children before leaving note for wife | US News
A man accused of murdering his three children left a note to his estranged wife: “If I can’t have them, neither can you,” prosecutors said.
Jason Karels, 35, of Round Lake Beach in Illinois, USA, is charged with the murders of Bryant Karels, 5, Cassidy Karels, 3, and Gideon Karels, 2.
The letter was found when police officers were sent to Karels’ home, and it was mentioned during his hearing.
According to an NBC report, the children were spending the weekend with their father when he allegedly dunked them in the bathtub before leaving their bodies on the bed.
They were found by their mother, Debra Karels, when she went to retrieve them.
In comments reported by the TV station, she said her children were “three pretty souls who don’t deserve this”.
“I wish I was there for them that day.
“I wish I was there to grab them before all this happened.
“The most important thing for me were the kids and he took that away from me.
“He knows that and knows that nothing matters to me but those kids.”
Karels told CBS that she and her husband were getting divorced at the time.
According to Sheriff Gilbert Rivera, Karels was arrested Monday after crashing his car while being pursued by police.
He told officers he was responsible for the deaths of his children and that he attempted suicide before fleeing his home.
His blood was later found in the house.
Karels has been asked to keep a $10 million bond but the state attorney’s office will take the case back to court on July 13 in an attempt to hold him without the possibility of a money bond. face.
