Jim Carrey among Canadian celebrities, journalists banned from entering Russia – Country


Russia’s Foreign Ministry announced on Monday that 100 Canadians have been added to the list of people barred from entering the country in response to Canada’s sanctions against Russia.

A ministry statement said author Margaret Atwood, actor Jim Carrey and Amy Knight, a prominent KGB historian, were on the banned list.

The ministry said they and 97 others, many of them affiliated with Ukrainian nationalist organizations, had been banned for their involvement in “the formation of anti-Russian extremists.”

Russia has also put a number of journalists on its entry ban list, including Global News’ David Akin. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith, former Quebec prime minister Jean Charest and former federal Conservative cabinet minister Peter MacKay were also named.
