Joe Biden: Will wait until after midterms to decide 2024 run

WASHINGTON: President Joe Biden said in an interview that he will decide whether to run for re-election after the congressional elections in November and that he disparaged the former president. Donald Trump for keeping confidential documents at his home in Palm Beach, Florida.
“It’s too early to make that kind of decision.” Biden said in a “60 Minutes” interview on Sunday. “What I’m doing is I’m doing my job. I will do that work, and in the timeframe that makes sense after the next election cycle here, next year, make a judgment on what to do.”
Biden, along with the Vice President Kamala Harris, has repeatedly endorsed plans to run for re-election in 2024, despite his age – he will turn 80 in November – and low approval ratings. While the president reaffirmed his intention to run again, he also conveyed that the decision was not final.
“Is my re-election a sure thing? That remains to be seen,” Biden said, according to the transcript of the interview. After interviewer Scott Pelley noted that Biden is the oldest president ever, Biden joked, “in pretty good shape, huh?”
The president also pointed to the requirements for the election law to go into effect after a candidate officially declares his candidacy as a reason to wait for a decision, saying that “suddenly there was a bunch of things being done.” if he made his intention official. .
The Federal Election Commission requires candidates to apply to the organization after making an official statement and to follow its rules regarding campaign contributions.
Looking for Mar-a-Lago
Biden, along with his aides, has limited extensive comment on the FBI’s investigation into classified documents kept at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. He said in the interview that he had not sought a briefing on the matter to avoid any suggestion that he involve himself in the investigation.
But he did describe his reaction when he saw an FBI photo of documents obtained during a raid in August.
“How could that happen?” he said in the interview. “I thought, ‘What data in there could compromise sources and methods?'”
It’s just “completely irresponsible,” he added.
