MANILA, Philippines — John Amores gets a second chance by signing Zamboanga Valientes in the Asean Basketball Championship.
The team on Thursday welcomed former University striker Jose Rizal Amores, who has been suspended indefinitely from the NCAA after his punch during their match against the College of Saint Benilde.
“We at Valientes believe in second chances. He was a good player but made a mistake and he truly regrets it..a mistake that doesn’t define who you are,” Nino general manager Rejhi Natividad said in a statement.
Amores punches several St. Benilde last November 8 and was sanctioned with an indefinite suspension and excluded from the JRU sports program.
Blazer Jimboy Pasturan and Taine Davis filed a formal complaint about the incident at the San Juan District Attorney’s Office. But Amores has sorry team directly in their practice.
Zamboanga believes Amores will be of great help to their team after the forward averaged 9.0 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.2 assists in 13 games before the incident.
Interestingly, the team’s previous name was Zamboanga Amores in Liga Pilipinas.
“Before we became Valientes, our nickname was Amores in Liga Pilipinas. Amores is love so we believe he can be a changed man this time especially he will be with Zamboanguenos. Courage is okay as long as you do it the right way,” says Navarro. Natividad said: “I think he will help our team, especially in defense and outfield.
“We’re looking forward to the rise of Amores with Valientes,” he added.
