John Lennon’s son Julian sings ‘Imagine’ for the first time in support of Ukraine – National

Despite vowing never to sing my dad’s hit song ImagineJulian Lennon released a cover in support of Ukraine.

Lennon, 59, performed the performance as part of Global Citizen’s social media rally, Stand Up For Ukraine, which is working to raise money for the war-torn country amid the war-torn country. Russian invasion.

In the description of the YouTube video, Lennon made it very clear why he wanted to sing Imagine.

“The Ukraine war was an unimaginable tragedy… As a human being, and as an artist, I felt compelled to react in the most critical way I could,” he wrote.

Lennon added that he had always said he would never perform the song “unless it was ‘Doomsday’.”

However, he changed his mind after realizing that his father’s lyrics “reflect our shared desire for world-wide peace,” he wrote.

“Because in this song we are transported to a space where love and attachment become our reality, if only for a period of time,” Lennon continued.

“The song reflects the light at the end of the tunnel, which we were all hoping for,” he wrote. “As a result of the ongoing murderous violence, millions of innocent families, have been forced to leave their comfortable abode, to seek asylum elsewhere.”

“I am calling on world leaders and all those who believe in the sentiments of IMAGINE, to stand up for refugees everywhere! Please campaign and donate from the heart. #StandUpForUkraine,” concluded Lennon.

Lennon is the son of legendary musician John Lennon and his first wife, Cynthia, in 1963. The couple separated in 1968 when Lennon was 5 years old.

John Lennon then married Yoko Ono in 1969 and had another son, Sean Ono Lennon, in 1975.
