Kyrie Irving Reportedly Called LeBron James About Reuniting

Kyrie Irving is facing an uncertain future with the Brooklyn Nets, and the Los Angeles Lakers are seen as one of the teams that could sign him if he doesn’t exercise his player option. Some doubt he’ll want to play with LeBron James again, but it seems the star point guard is very open to that.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith said on Thursday “First Take” that Irving called LeBron to discuss the possibility of a reunion.

“He’s already calling LeBron. He’s calling LeBron,” Smith said, via Ryan Glasspiegel of the New York Post. “Remember that guy left, that he didn’t want to be an assistant or a brother? Remember? … I happen to know he is calling LeBron these days. Isn’t the world beautiful? There used to be a soap opera called ‘When the World Turns.’ It’s ‘When Kyrie turns.’ It’s a soap opera. We’ll keep that up all summer. This is where he is. “

Irving has until June 29 to decide if he will exercise his $36.9 million player option for next season. The Lakers don’t have a salary cap to sign him, but the ability to contract and trade is a possibility. ESPN’s Brian Windhorst also said Thursday that he wouldn’t rule out Irving would use the mid-level exception, around $6 million, to join forces with LeBron in LA.
