Lady Gaga confirmed her role in Joker 2 by posting a music trailer Twitter. She is rumored to play Harley Quinn opposite Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker.
This week it was also announced that Joker: Folie à deux will in theaters on August 4, 2024. Joker 2’s subtitles translate as “two people’s madness” or “two people’s shared madness.” It is a reference to a medical term for a shared mental disorder or delusional disorder – or possibly hallucinations that are passed from one person to another. Starting earlier this summer, it was rumored that Lady Gaga would be in the movie – and Joker 2 could be a musical. Lady Gaga’s tweet confirms the former, but not the latter – though given her facts, it certainly makes sense that the Joker’s next outing could be musical.
Phoenix will be 20 million dollars earned to reprise his role as the Clown Crime Prince. And although we now have the title and release date, the plot of the film remains a mystery.
In addition to Phoenix, the 2019 Oscar-winning film that introduces this new character, Joker also stars Robert De Niro, Zazi Beetz and Frances Conroy. The film has grossed over $1 billion at the global box office.
