Magnitude 6.5 earthquake shakes Ecuador; no immediate reports of damage



QUITO: A size 6.5 earthquake shake a Island area of Ecuador on Saturday, causing people to rush out of buildings but there was no immediate official report of damage for people or infrastructure.
Social media users reported some damage to buildings in the area after the quake, including an epicenter 29 kilometers (18.02 miles) from Balao city in Guayas province. Those reports could not be independently verified by Reuters.
Authorities said the quake did not appear to have produced a tsunami.
State oil company Petroecuador said there were no reports of damage at any of its facilities and “operations continue as normal.”
