The ‘India Footwear Development Program (IFLDP)’ plan has a financial budget of INR 1,700 billion until March 31, 2026. As a sub-plan of the IFLDP, the ‘Accessory Cluster Development’ plan and large leather shoes’ (MLFACD) aims to develop Leather Industry clusters to integrate front- and back-end linkages and take advantage of economies of scale.
Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation, on behalf of the state, has submitted a proposal to develop the 151-acre Mega Footwear and Accessories Cluster in Ratwad, Raigad District, under the MLFACD plan. The National Productivity Council (NPC) reviewed the proposal submitted by the state. Government of India will provide grants up to 125 Cr INR for this project.
MIDC is working with the Leather Export Council (CLE) and the Maharashtra Leather Industry Development Corporation (LIDCOM) in the state to conduct market research and stakeholder outreach to develop the leather cluster. The main highlight of the skin cluster includes its proximity to the Port of Dighi, widespread access to existing electricity, water and CETP infrastructure and industrial ecosystems.
