Mario Kart Tour Is Removing Gacha, Its Most Controversial Feature
Visiting Mario Kart is phasing out its gacha pipeline, putting a breakpoint on its most controversial feature.
Gacha mechanics are a common form of loot box-like drops in mobile games, and Mario Kart Tour made them available as Pipes. The Pipe feature previously allowed players to randomly receive drivers, karts, and gliders by paying in-game currency rubi. Like the old gachapon machines, it will give the player a completely random item. While it doesn’t allow duplicates, it still means that a certain element of luck is required to get the karts or the cars you want. Worse yet, it can cost players hundreds of dollars to choose drivers with specific deadlines.
Now, the game is replacing Pipe with a new Spotlight Shop with a rotating inventory, allowing players to buy drivers, karts, and gliders without resorting to luck to get what they want.
“We are adding a Spotlight Shop where you can exchange rubies for drivers, karts, and coasters featured on the tours,” the in-game announcement reads (via VGC). “New drivers, karts and gliders, as well as drivers, karts and gliders that have appeared in the past, will be available.”
According to the in-game announcement, the pipe that you can currently shoot with rubies will be completely removed from the game. The new Spotlight Shop will launch with tours starting after October 4, 2022. While it may still be expensive, it’s certainly a fairer way for players to pay for their items. .
As well as the new Spotlight Shop, Mario Kart Tour also adds a brand new Battle Mode, which allows players to go head-to-head with other players and is available in single-player and multiplayer modes. multiplayer mode.
Similar to other Mario Kart Battle modes, each player starts with a number of balloons attached to their kart, with the goal of popping their opponent’s balloons while saving their own.
Mario Kart Tour launched back in September 2019 and has seen a huge number of drivers and karts in the game – over 190 drivers, 240 karts and 170 coasters on offer to date, with many of them being exclusive to Gacha Pipe. Now, it looks like players will have a chance to pick up any items they missed through the Spotlight Shop.
Mario Kart Tour has also offered many new courses, many of which are geared towards Mario Kart 8 Deluxe In the Booster Course Pass DLC. Want to read more about Mario Kart?
