Martin Lawrence, Ice Cube and More Pay Tribute – The Hollywood Reporter

Celebrities took to social media to pay their respects to Coolio, the Grammy-winning rapper behind the global hit “Gangsta’s Paradise,” who passed away on Wednesday at the age of 59.

His manager, Jarez Posey, told The Hollywood Reporter that the rapper passed away Wednesday afternoon at a friend’s home in Los Angeles. “He goes to the bathroom and never comes out,” Posey said. No cause of death was given at the time.

Coolio achieved worldwide success in the 1990s with the release of three of his albums – It Takes a Thief, Gangster Paradise and My soul – helped him break into mainstream music, thanks to singles such as “Fantastic Voyage,” “1, 2, 3, 4 (Sumpin ‘New)” and “CU When U Get There.”

In addition to the release of those albums, the ’90s also saw Coolio write the theme song for the 1996-2000 Nickelodeon sitcom ‘Kenan & Kel.’ Throughout his career, he has voiced the character Kwanzaa-bot on exhibition about the future and appeared in movies like Oh my God, Batman and Robin, Drown and Stealing Candy.

Rappers and stars also use social media to pay tribute to the artist.

Kenan Thompson, who plays the main character Kenan & Kel, posted on his Instagram story, saying, “Wait, now it’s Coolio!!” followed by two more slides featuring photos of the musician, writing, “Damn, homie!!! Rest in power!!!! ”

“This is sad news. I witnessed firsthand the honing of this man to reach the top of the industry. Rest In Peace @Coolio,” rapper and actor Ice Cube tweeted.

“Coolio is Taste of the West Coast. He likes to tell people that. We had to perform together this Tuesday. #RIP my friend,” Flava Flav tweeted.
