Montreal musician Pierre Kwenders wins Polaris Music Award 2022

Pierre Kwenders won the 2022 Polaris Music Award for his album José Louis and the Love Paradox.

The Congolese Canadian’s third album was selected by an 11-member jury for a $50,000 prize.

José Louis and the Love Paradox blends the disco energy of Afro-Latin rhythms with influences from the Kwenders’ home music scene in Montreal.

The Polaris Music Prize is considered one of the country’s most prestigious music awards.

Previous winners include Cadence Weapon, Haviah Mighty, Jeremy Dutcher and Kaytranada.

An eclectic group of Canadian musicians entered this year’s awards, including rapper Shad, Vancouver Destroyer and Rosaireville rock bands, and NB-raised Lisa LeBlanc.
