NBA: Donovan Mitchell, Cavaliers oust Spurs for 7th straight win

Donovan Mitchell sank six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 41 to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a seventh straight win, a 117-109 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Monday.

Cleveland almost led the game, pushing its advantage to 21 points thanks in part to a 29-15 lead in the first leg, despite committing just 2 points less than the Spurs’ 16. .

San Antonio, the team that lost their 13th game in a row, closed the gap to 4 points in the fourth quarter.

Keldon Johnson’s 25 points lead the Spurs, whose first five games have all scored twice as many. Malaki Branham scored 18 points, Keita Bates-Diop added 14 points and won 6 rebounds, Zach Collins finished with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists and Jeremy Sochan scored 10 points.

Devonte’ Graham, newly acquired from the New Orleans Pelicans, came on from the bench to score 12 points for San Antonio. Spurs’ 109 points are the second-highest total for the Cavaliers’ defense in their winning streak.

The equalizer wasn’t enough for San Antonio, however, who fell 0-5 on the annual Rodeo Road Trip. The Spurs couldn’t beat Cleveland’s effective shot performance from the field, with a shot rate of 56.4% (44 out of 78).

San Antonio pulled the score in 95-91 with the game down to 9:16 when Charles Bassey made a set-up, but the Cavs responded with a six-point no-answer – all free throws – in return. The game has ended.

Mitchell’s 6/13 shot from deep gave him almost three times more than the entire San Antonio squad, which finished the night 8/21 from outside the arc.

Cleveland’s Jarrett Allen scored 17 points from 7/11 shots from the field and racked up a game-high 11 rebounds. Frontcourt’s mate, Evan Mobley, scored 15 points and won 9 rebounds.

Cleveland also had 16 points and 7 assists from Darius Garland in the win.

The Cavaliers are just one win away from having the longest streak of the season.
