Netflix has revealed the first footage from the upcoming Spiderhead movie during Day 2 of Geeked Week. The film is an adaptation of George Saunders’ short story Escape From Spiderhead, first published by The New Yorker in 2010. It tells the story of prisoners who want to reduce their sentences as part of an experiment with mood-altering drugs. Netflix premiered its first trailer again maybe.
In the Netflix adaptation, Chris Hemsworth plays warden Steve Abnesti, with Miles Teller and Jurnee Smollett as prisoners Jeff and Rachel. They star Tess Haubrich, who plays Heather, another inmate we see interacting with Teller’s Jeff in the first glimpse revealed during Geeked Week.
In this scene, we have Jeff and Heather tested for some kind of drug to increase their attraction to each other. Hemsworth’s Abnesti used the potion remotely and watched two prisoners go from 0 to 60 in seconds.
Originally set to release in the final quarter of 2021, Spiderhead premieres exclusively on Netflix on June 17.
