TUSCALOOSA, Ala. —- Young Bryce and Alabama took 10th place, even if the 7th title wasn’t on the card.

Young passed 343 yards and three touches and scored another point in what was probably his final home game for 8th Alabama, leading the Crimson Tide past Auburn 49-27 during the Iron Bowl on Saturday.

Alabama (10-2, 6-2 Southeast Conference, CFP No. 7) hits double digits for wins for its 15th consecutive season but will almost certainly fall short of its current national championship aspirations .

The Tigers (5-7, 2-6) are trying to secure poor qualification and salvage a disappointing campaign.

Tide coach Nick Saban said the criticism following his team’s two final losses “really brought the players together.”

“I think one of the things that makes me most proud is when people think they’ve run out of things – when there’s a lot of protestors out there – this team didn’t give up, didn’t give up. stick together and win some tough games to end the season,” Saban said.

Young, a junior, completed 20 of 30 passes with an intercept and ran for 48 yards. The 2021 Heisman Trophy winner, whose season has been marred by a shoulder injury, is predicted to be a high NFL draft pick if he leaves early. Tide All-America linebacker too Will Anderson Jr., who had a few sacks fourth quarter.

Both talked about their time in Alabama without revealing their plans.

“It’s an honor,” Anderson said. “I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world.”

More Young: “It’s the whole world to me.”

Auburn ran 318 yards, the most against Alabama since winning 355 yards in 1983. But the Tigers’ passing game was almost non-existent. midfielder Robby Ashford became the first Auburn player to make two touchdowns in the Iron Bowl since Carnell Williams – now interim Tigers coach – in 2003.

Ashford went 121 yards on the ground but only made 77 passes, though that included a pretty perfect 20-yard touchdown pass to J’aVarrious Johnson in the far right corner of the end area.

“He tried to help us win,” Williams said.

jacquez hunter ran 11 times in 134 yards but also lost once. It was his third consecutive 100-yard game.

“We’ve been insisting all week that they’re going to fight and give us everything they’ve got,” Williams said. “They believed. They know these coaches believe in them.”

Auburn tackled two goals in the fourth half and gave up a late touch due to Jahmyr Gibbs.

CARRIED AWAY

Auburn: Finished 2-2 under Williams, who served as the running back coach. Saturday’s mistakes included a muffled hit and a fumble when Hunter bumped into a teammate below. Both set up touchdowns in Alabama.

Alabama: Pretty easy win but still doesn’t look like a team of the caliber of the College Rugby Qualifier.

COMPETE

Saban managed to get through the game after being hit on the cheek by a player while being hit on the sideline by a player. “Before you ask, you should see the other guy,” he joked.

NEXT

Auburn awaits a new head coach.

Alabama is waiting for its bleak destination, hoping to make it into the New Year’s 6th game while clinging to its slim playoff hopes.
