Olivia Wilde doesn’t want Stephen Colbert to worry about the rumors surrounding her new movie.
The Don’t worry, baby director is a guest on CBS’ The Late Show on the Wednesday before the Warner Bros movie premieres this Friday. In a preview clip posted to the show’s Twitter account, Wilde discusses the so-called “Spit-Gate” speculation that has surrounded a viral video and led social media users to question whether Harry Styles spat at co-star Chris Pine at the film’s premiere earlier this month at the Venice Film Festival.
“One of our other weird rumours, the Spit-Gate, that you may have heard of, I think is…” Wilde said before Colbert cut her off.
The host made it clear he wanted to ask Wilde about the rage, and apparently read from his notepad: “Did Harry Styles spit on Chris Pine? Why or why not? Please support your answer. “
Wilde laughed and replied, “No, he doesn’t. But I think it’s a perfect example of how people will search for drama wherever they can. In fact, Harry didn’t spit on Chris…”
Colbert interrupted her again to quip, “Only time will tell.”
The film has been at the center of many discussions, including speculation about rumors of a rift between Wilde and star Florence Pugh. Wilde and Styles began dating after the horror film began production, starring Gemma Chan, KiKi Layne and Nick Kroll and was able to gross $20 million in its opening weekend at the box office.
Pine’s team previously issued a statement denying that Styles had spit on him. Additionally, Styles poked fun at the controversy during a recent performance at Madison Square Garden.
The Late Show airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
