In a lengthy Oscars diary published on IndieWire Wednesday, the 72-year-old filmmaker took on the “violent episode” at the awards show, in which he was seated in Dolby Theater “Very close to the main characters” when the hit occurs. Criticize! For Pedro, that feeling continues after the incident, especially during King Richard The star’s subsequent best actor acceptance speech – a speech he felt “seemed more like a cult leader’s speech”. Whoa, what?! He continued:
“You don’t protect or defend your family with your fists, and no, the devil doesn’t take advantage of the crucial times to do his job.”
In particular, he raised the issue when Will repeated something a famous American actor warned him of the consequences of the slap. As you may recall, the 67-year-old was one of the few people who spoke to Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum after the slap. Will later thanked Denzel for telling him, “at your peak, be careful, that’s when the devil comes looking for you” during the speech. And as we mentioned, the screenwriter seemed deeply troubled by that sentiment, writing:
“Actually, the devil does not exist. This is a fundamentalist speech that we should not hear or see. Some people think that was the only real moment in the ceremony, but they are talking about the faceless monster on social media. For them, the desire to eat meat was, without a doubt, the big event of the night. “
Yeesh…
Since the award week diary post from Pedro, Denzel has revealed some more details about what happened to Will during his appearance at the author and bishop. TD Jakes‘leadership summit on Saturday. Referring to what was said during his Best Actor speech, he expressed:
“Well, there’s a saying, ‘When the devil ignores you, you’ll know you’re doing something wrong.’ The demon said, ‘Oh no, leave him alone, he’s my favorite.’ On the contrary, when the devil comes to you, it may be because he is trying to do something right. And for whatever reason the devil learned of the situation that night. “
While Denzel did not reveal what was said during the chat, he shared that the group prayed at the time:
“Fortunately there were people there. Not only me, but other people, Tyler Perry, came right there with me. [Said] some prayers. I don’t want to say what we talked about, but there, but for the grace of God will go any of us. Who are we to condemn? I don’t know all the outside situations, but I know the only solution is prayer, the way I see it. ”
