Let’s be honest: There’s nothing exciting about dandruff. Whether it’s the white “snow” that ends up on your black t-shirt or the ugly bottles of shampoo that announce the condition of your scalp to anyone who walks into your bathroom, itchy, uncomfortable flakes That’s definitely not attractive. Luckily for us fragile people, that’s about to change.

Meet the Latest Launch From OUAI: The Anti-Dandruff Shampoo You’ll Really would like to show off in your bathroom. The ultra-luxury brand (founded by celebrity hairstylist Jen Atkin) is known for its hard-working, luxurious body and hair products and the newest addition to its line. no different. From the packaging, the fragrance to the formula, the shampoo gives the dandruff category a much-needed upgrade.

“We did some research and went to the local pharmacy and said, ‘We need to do more than the pharmacy,'” said Diana Pratasiewciz Barnao, education director at OUAI. “We were unimpressed with what we found to help with dandruff. It’s not aesthetically pleasing, the scent isn’t great, it doesn’t make you feel like you’re about to have a luxurious experience with getting help.”

Shampoos with 2% salicylic acid help eliminate the recurrence of itching, irritation, redness and peeling; propanediol caprylate to reduce dandruff-causing bacteria and soothe the scalp; and gentle surfactants and conditioners to keep hair soft, smooth and clean like regular shampoo (not a medical shampoo that reduces dandruff but can dry out remaining strands). your return). It is free of SLS, SLES, parabens and phthalates, and is safe for color treated and chemically treated hair as well as keratin treated or Brazilian permed hair.

This marks OUAI’s first foray into over-the-counter cosmetics, meaning it’s a viable treatment option for those clinically diagnosed with dandruff. And the clinical studies really speak for themselves. After 28 days of use, 100% of participants agreed that they saw less flakes on their scalp and hair, and their scalp felt noticeably healthier, with less itching and irritation.

And as someone who, despite not being clinically diagnosed, has struggled with dandruff for many years, I’m eager to put these claims to the test. I consider my dandruff relatively mild, but zoom in on any of my selfies and you’ll probably find a few inconspicuous white flakes in my hair (okay, to be honest, sometimes I edit them before posting so you may not see the dandruff….but trust me, it’s there).

The first thing I noticed about the shampoo, really from the moment I opened the package, was how luxurious it looked. This is not your ordinary dandruff shampoo. This product, like the rest of OUAI products, is sleek, minimalist, and sophisticated. It’s a shampoo you’re happy to have on full display — even the word “dandruff” is relatively small on the label, a detail that I greatly appreciate.

I was also impressed with the scent, which is another key differentiator from traditional anti-dandruff shampoos (and a staple in OUAI’s entire product line). The anti-dandruff shampoo features one of OUAI’s signature “OUAI de parfums”, Cape Town, an earthy scent with notes of ginger and mint.

“OUAI is known for its fragrance. We are a perfume brand throughout. What better way to change that smell [of traditional dandruff shampoo] rather than with the scent of grass and green figs and basil?” Barnao said.

To treat mild flaking, I use shampoo two to three times a week. Before applying, I will lather the product and then apply, focusing directly on the roots and scalp. I would let it sit in my hair for five minutes, wash it off, and then apply conditioner.

Almost immediately, my hair was clean, soft and silky. And the best part is that my scalp is barely flaking, even a few days after washing. At this point, OUAI anti-dandruff shampoo has become an indispensable product in my hair care routine.

“One in five people has dandruff, but talking about it is still very taboo,” Atkins says. “We are here to eliminate the shame, embarrassment and discomfort of having dandruff. From formulation and clinical, packaging, campaign and especially fragrance, we are here to help you stop flaking.”

Task completed.
