MANILA, Philippines—Despite a steady recovery, Northport’s Arwind Santos remained cautious as a knee injury caused him to miss the team’s first game at the PBA Governors’ Cup on Sunday.
Santos suffered a knee injury just before the PBA Commissioner’s Cup that kept him out for the rest of the last game. Since then, he has undergone surgery, which he says is fine.
“The recovery is fine. But I can’t rush because I’m the one who will feel it,” the veteran said after his interview. The team’s 122-92 loss to Insurance at PhilSports Arena on Sunday.
“If [injury] It’s in my hands, now I can play but it’s different when we talk about the lower body because that’s where I get my speed and power,” he added.
Along with the 41-year-old, Robert Bolick also sat out Batang Pier’s first loss due to a hamstring injury.
Bolick led the previous tournament in points with 21 points per game.
As for Santos, he will be back next month for the newly trained coach Bonnie Tan in an attempt to get Northport into the playoffs.
“I will try to come back in mid-February. I hope my teammates can win, my faith in them is yes,” he said.
“Before the game, I hope they can win 4-2,” he also urged.
Batang Pier started their Commissioner’s Cup with a loss. They continued their run on Thursday against Meralco led by Chris Newsome at the Ynares Antipolo Center.
