A former UAAP player has been appointed by Converge to replace former PBA commissioner Chito Salud as alternate governor.
Archen Cayabyab, who helped National University reach the UAAP Finals for the first time in 2001, received the consent of the PBA Board of Governors, which a few weeks ago approved the appointment of Converge as Dennis Pineda as team captain.
“It’s good to be back in the basketball arena again,” Cayabyab said after his appointment was announced on Thursday.
Cayabyab is close to Converge coach Aldin Ayo and assistant Danny Ildefonso, an NU alumnus.
His joining of the Convergence camp came after Pineda, who held the post of governor of Pampanga, was denied inclusion on the board due to the latter’s desire to remain apolitical.
Salud then resigned alternate governor to focus on one of Converge’s projects outside of basketball.
“I am here to help the franchise win their first championship. Of course, the bosses completely trust me in this, including the decision-making,” Caybayab said.
“Of course, we have to improve every day to win the championship. We know we have a young team compared to other teams that already have a winning culture. I hope one day Converge can match them.”
