MANILA, Philippines—With LA Tenorio ailing, Nards Pinto provided Ginebra with much-needed support to defeat Rain or Shine on Sunday night’s PBA Governors’ Cup debut.
Pinto went great, scoring 8 of his 12 points in the 4th half to help Gin Kings against Elasto Painters, 116-108.
“Having the likes of Nards and Scottie, we don’t panic when we fall behind in that short time and come back into the game with a couple of big thirds. We’ve also improved a bit thanks to him,” said coach Tim Cone.
The former Arellano star shot just in time in the final frame, including a treble that made it 11-0 after the Gin Kings took a three-goal lead in less than nine minutes.
Pinto also had 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal after 20 minutes on the bench from the bench.
Cone said Tenorio “had a little change in his abs” that kept him in for just two minutes of action. He finished with three points.
“He’s a fighter, I don’t think anyone else would have tried to play at that point but LA wanted to play and that’s why Nards was super important because we wanted to get Scottie’s minutes down a bit. and we didn’t think LA would have a lot of minutes,” Cone said.
“So we knew Nards was coming out and man, he really played in that fourth half. He always plays well in the fourth half,” he added.
