MANILA, Philippines—Jamaal Franklin’s triple double entry cemented the undefeated Converge to a 112-98 win over struggling Rain or Shine in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Thursday at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Franklin had 25 points, 13 bounces, and 15 assists in an all-around performance as the FiberXers returned to the lead alone in the finals grand prix with a fourth straight win.
“It was his game,” coach Aldin Ayo said of Converge’s enhancement. “He is a complete player. He can shoot, he can stage the attack, he’s very unselfish and he likes to break the board if need be.”
Rookie center Justine Arana scored 21 points while four others, including Jeron Teng and Abu Tratter, scored twice as many for FiberXers in disappointing Elasto Painters.
Rain or Shine lost 0-3 in a match that saw coach Yeng Guiao disqualified for two technical fouls.
Guiao was sent off at the end of the third half after using profanity at referee Mau Orioste.
It was the first disqualification for the fiery mentor since he returned to Camp Rain or Shine in this season’s Commissioner’s Cup.
Michael Qualls’ 34 points failed to get Elasto Painters out of their initial misery despite regrouping late in the second half to take a 52-48 lead in the first half.
