Petro Gazz Closes To PVL Finals After Closing PLDT

MANILA, Philippines — Jonah Sabete led Petro Gazz’s balanced attack to get through the first-set loss and knock out PLDT, 22-25, 25-19, 25-21, 25-18, to step in. 2023 Premier Finals The All-Philippines Volleyball Championship Finals take place on Saturday at Philsports Arena.
Sabete took home the top 18 in the game based on 14 strikes, three blocks and one trump card to put the Angels ahead of their best-of-three semi-final series against High Speed. Hitters.
Sabete scored most of her points in the fourth set, bringing in four straight points to give Petro Gazz a 14-9 lead before MJ Phillips took control and hit the match point, 24-13. But the PLDT saved 5 match points just because Jovy Prado made an offensive foul that sent Game 1 in favor of the Angels.
Djanel Cheng made an excellent 18 sets with the highest 6 points when 5 Angels scored double the number with MJ Phillips bringing back 17 points, including 4 blocks. Remy Palma and Aiza Maizo-Pontillas have 14 and 13 points respectively. Grethcel Soltones added 10 points and 17 tackles, while libero Cienne Cruz had 13 tackles and 12 excellent tackles.
New Petro Gazz coach Oliver Almadro is looking to bring Petro Gazz back to the All-Philippines Finals for the third time with a chance to end the streak in Game 2 on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
Almadro hasn’t made it to the pro championship round yet.
“PLDT is a really great team. But great teams will only push us forward. They pushed us to our limits, so we saw our flaws, especially in the first two sets,” Almadro said in Filipino. “The good thing is that these girls are really warriors. They are humble and they are warriors, and they really want that.”
Prado leads the PLDT with an all-round record of 18 points, 14 digs and 11 hits. Mean Mendrez and Mika Reyes each got 11 points, while libero Kath Arado got 27 points.
