PH Blu Boys return to Softball World Cup
Philippine Blu boys at the Men’s Asian Softball Cup.
The Philippine Blu Boys team won their ticket back to the Men’s World Softball Championship after finishing third at the Asian Men’s Softball Championship in Kochi, Japan.
With just five innings to complete a 7-0 win over Hong Kong in the consolation round match at Haruno Softball Stadium, the Blu Boys secured the third Asian slot allotted for the World Cup to be held next year. 2025.
This will be the 10th appearance of the last 12 World Cups by the Filipino players, including the one held in December 2022 when they finished 10th out of 12 teams with a 2-6 record.
All of the softball teams have earned their spot in this year’s World Cup, including the Blu Girls, their U-15 rivals, and the co-editing team.
The Blu Boys took third place 3-2 in the preliminary round, with two losses to eventual champions Japan and to Singapore in the final.
The third round lasted six innings allowing the Blu Boys to take control of the match in third place to beat Hong Kong for the second time in the competition.
John Lucas broke the scoreless draw with a two-legged brace before Kenneth Torres’ left singles strike allowed the two runners-up to score to double the lead for the Philippines.
Julius Dela Cruz scored nine after throwing a shot on target for the Blu Boys.
